If this project finds a receptive audience with receptive wallets, I don’t want the benefits to stop with me. The whole idea behind “Give dave a buck” is that small acts of generosity—especially towards doing nothing—can ripple outward. I believe that generosity begets generosity. So here are a few goals on the horizon if this actually takes off:
—The Do-Nothing Scholarship
When I reach $50,000 in donations, I’ll offer a $5,000 scholarship to one lucky person—with only one condition: it can’t be used for anything productive. No investments, no crypto, no “side hustles.” Just pure, unadulterated rest. If you want to spend two months lying on a beach drinking pina coladas—perfect. If you want to wander aimlessly through city streets or just stay home staring at your ceiling—also perfect. The only requirement is that you step off the treadmill and get reacquainted with what it feels like to just be.
—Adopt-a-Sloth Project
The sloth is my spirit animal and the mascot of this site. Sloths have been around for 65.5 million years—proof that taking life slow and easy is a successful strategy. So, I will adopt a sloth through The Sloth Conservation Foundation and you can follow along as our adopted sloth slowly makes its way through the rainforest—living proof that sometimes the best pace is no pace at all. It’s a small way to give back, to support an animal that embodies the spirit of this whole project: peaceful, deliberate, beautifully unhurried.
—Smaller Giveaways Along the Way
Until we reach the scholarship milestone, I’ll be doing smaller, random giveaways—anywhere from $100 to $500—just to help someone catch a break. A night out, a weekend away, a few hours of peace. Let’s spread the joy and freedom around.
—Become an unmotivational speaker
Because someone needs to be a counter balance to all the influencers, life coaches, and Jordan Peterson types trying to motivate you to give over more of your life to working. I want to inspire people to do nothing, or at least slow down a bit and take some time for themselves.
—Pay an actual web designer to make a real website
